At Wairarapa Funeral Services we take the health and wellbeing of our staff and client families very seriously. With the current unprecedented measures taking place to reduce the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus), below are the measures we are implementing to support our staff and community.
When someone dies and you make that first call to us, in addition to our usual questions we will ask you if any family members are showing any signs of illness or have been advised or required to self-isolate. Depending on your circumstances we may ask for the room/facility be vacated when we transfer your loved one into our care. This is for the safety of our staff.
Our staff will likely don personal protection equipment such as gloves, gown and facemask when they arrive. Please be prepared for this. Additionally, a facemask may be placed on the deceased. This is because air can be exhaled as we transfer onto our stretcher. Again, these measures are for the safety of all involved.
Funeral Arrangements will be conducted over the phone. Documents that need to be signed will be prepared and dropped off to be signed or scanned and emailed they will need to be printered signed and scanned back.
Any person entering our funeral home will be asked by our friendly team all your details so we can contact trace if needed. Single ‘self-isolated family bubbles’ may make appointments to visit a loved one in our care so long as they are not: showing symptoms of Covid-19, or have a compromised immune system
Gatherings of up to 10 people are allowed for funerals. Physical distancing and public health measures must be maintained, with attendees keeping 2 metres apart where possible (apart from with people within their extended bubble). Our Funeral Directors will utilise the use of web streaming technology to ensure those unable to attend in person, can view the service from the safety of their own home. We are unable to hold any reception functions offering food or beverages.
If you are unwell with flu-like symptoms or have been in contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 within 14 days or have recently arrived from overseas we ask for your cooperation by isolating.
We are committed to providing our families with great service in the weeks and months ahead but please understand that there are some changes to our usual practices.
